The Department of Global Gender Studies draws on the talents and dedication of more than fifty faculty members across the University at Buffalo. The core faculty consists of distinguished scholars and artists whose work has gained national and international notice. Faculty research and scholarship has been supported by prestigious institutions such as the Soros Foundation, the Social Science Research Council, and the Hurston/Wright Foundation. Major areas of research include feminist theories of nation, states and citizens, women's political equality in Latin America, studies of black women writers, women's literature and social change, gender and global literature, gendered processes of world-wide diffusion of democracy and markets, and women's health in developing countries. The department's educational mission is supported by a dynamic and diverse community of scholars throughout the university who focus on issues of feminism, gender, and women.
